You can claim a maximum of $1000 per child for fees paid during the year that relate to the cost of registering your child, your spouse’s or common-law partner’s child in a prescribed program of physical activity. The program must be ongoing (minimum of 8 weeks duration with a minimum of one session per week, or in the case of camps, five consecutive days), supervised and require significant physical activity. For example, hockey or dance lessons would qualify.
The child must have been under the age of 16 at the beginning of the year the eligible fitness expense was paid.
There are more extensive rules which exist for children with disabilities. Please visit the CRA website or consult a professional for more information.
